Karine Hains: Don’t Get Too Attached Surely you can see it coming, big changes are looming in Montreal and it’s not time to get overly attached to some of your favorite players.

you can't trade them all, but I would make them available. all of them.
not the kids, but all the others. and yes retain some salary if needed.

I wanted the Canadiens to keep Allen this Summer, he was signed to a reasonable contract (1 more year at $2.85 M) and felt like the perfect back-up to Carey Price, but 5 months on, there is no Carey Price, and the Canadiens are nowhere near contending, they don’t need a reliable back-up anymore as strange as it may be to say.

they might not need a "backup", but they do need a goalie, and Allen has more often than not been their starter. he's the only thing that keeps this team from being completely embarrassed every night, and with Price's health always being a question mark I don't find it would be such a smart move to trade him.

I think it will be more interesting if/when the Habs decide to take on veteran contracts with short term left, with a sweetener of picks / prospects. They have so much LITR money this year to spend, might as well take advantage of it. And based on how much they take on, it might be reflective of how much they send out.

Never though they might consider trading Gallagher, but fresh people with fresh ties to the organization have no emotional alliances to the players. I hope they find him some decent linemates and let him get back to 25+ goals a season territory.

On top of Chairot, Leks and Allen having been mentioned, I could see Tifolli being sent packing (very reasonable contract), and if healthy, maybe Edmundson and/or Byron - both with a year left.

I do not think anyone wants the Hoffman contract, unless the Habs eat some of it. Ditto for Drouin.

Then there is a throw a low pick at Kulak, Wideman, Paquette, and Perrault, which likely does not do much for long-term value of the franchise.

But a pick is a pick, and you never know.

Habs fans gave two earlier proposals for Price trades:

Price for Nuge, a couple prospects and a first

Price half retained, Drouin half retained and Chariot half retained for Koskinen, Holloway, Broberg, a first, a second and Klefbom. ( this isn’t even a legal trade).

I think they have to decide what direction they want to go in. If it's a rebuild I see no reason to keep ANYONE other than the young studs and hopefuls.

I sort of agreed with MB when he said this team is better than it is showing. The problem is he got players to play positions and never built a cohesive unit. If you go that way you trade your the pending free agents, and some of your left defense prospects (we have about 7) with a player who has a bad contract. Then you fill in with players to make the unit that will work as a team.

and get rid of the coach as soon as the season ends and you are done tanking.

How about no. Last thing the oilers need is price. Even for free.

Thats an interesting take considering the Oilers have had a giant hole in net since...Rolosson? Price fills that hole and gives them leadership in the room. Well worth.

Goaltending has stolen many games this year. Has been a strong spot and not the expected weakness. Defence is atrocious
